Michael Flicek Cv/Bio
I have a doctorate in school psychology and have had a 20 year career as a psychologist in a clinic and public schools. Since the late 1990s I've worked as an educational researcher. My undergraduate degree is in philosophy and psychology.
Photography is self-taught. My interest in photography dates to the early 1980s when I purchased my first 35mm camera. During that time I was a serious amateur who won awards in each of the three contests that I entered. Photography has always been an important creative outlet but intervening years were filled with many distractions associated with raising a family. The distractions included skiing, backcountry travel, rock and mountain climbing, and ten years of coaching soccer. In 2005 I converted to digital photography which helped me find my way back to the serious pursuit of photography. The decision to pursue fine art photography gave an important and much needed sense of purpose to my photography. I have learned much and I have much more to learn.
My work is varied and I fully expect it to continue evolving over time. Currently I am exploring black and white processing with subjects ranging from street photographs, to landscapes, nature studies, and architecture. Many of my images are captured during travels. I particularly enjoy long walks early and late in the day when the light is interesting and the shadows are long.
